My Dad Was Given 2 Years to Live — Here’s What Changed Everything

I still remember the moment everything shifted.

I had just finished PA school — years of studying, training, and preparing to help people get well. And then my dad sat across from me with a diagnosis that no amount of textbooks had prepared me for: Type 2 Diabetes and liver cancer. His doctors said there weren’t many treatment options. They gave him 2 years to live.

I was a newly trained Physician Assistant. And I felt completely helpless.

But helpless wasn’t something I was willing to stay.

What Do You Do When Medicine Says There’s Nothing Left to Try?

When the conventional options run out, most people feel like they’re out of road. I get it. But I couldn’t accept that for my dad. So I did what I knew how to do — I started digging.

I went back to the science. And then I went somewhere I hadn’t thought to look before: Scripture.

What I found in both places didn’t just surprise me. It changed the entire direction of my life.

What the Science Actually Says About Lifestyle and Disease

The research on lifestyle medicine is more powerful than most people realize — and honestly, more powerful than a lot of what we learn in traditional medical training.

Study after study shows that the way we eat, move, sleep, manage stress, and connect with community has a profound effect on our risk for — and even our ability to reverse — chronic disease. Type 2 Diabetes, heart disease, obesity, certain cancers: the lifestyle connection is real, and it’s significant.

I started applying what I was finding to our family. We overhauled how we ate. We got intentional about movement, sleep, and stress. We stopped waiting for a prescription to save us and started taking an active role in our health every single day.

The results were not subtle.

Our family began experiencing more energy, weight loss, improved digestion, clearer focus, and healthier skin. We felt alive in a way we hadn’t in years. And my dad — the man who was given 2 years — is still here. Still going. Still beating his prognosis.

Why I Turned to the Bible (And What I Found There)

Here’s the part of the story I wasn’t expecting.

As I was diving deeper into the research on lifestyle and health, I kept noticing something: the principles showing up in the science weren’t new. They were ancient. They were already written down — thousands of years ago — in Scripture.

The Bible has a lot to say about how we care for our bodies. About rest, about food, about community, about peace of mind. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 puts it plainly:

“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.”

That verse hit me differently once I understood what honoring our bodies actually looked like in practice. It wasn’t about perfection or restriction. It was about stewardship. About recognizing that God designed us to thrive — and that He gave us the tools to do it.

Science and Scripture weren’t competing. They were pointing at the same thing.

The Mission That Was Born From the Hardest Season

I didn’t set out to become a lifestyle educator. I set out to save my dad.

But what I learned in that desperate, research-filled season was too important to keep to myself. I saw how transformative these changes were — not just physically, but mentally and spiritually. I watched my family come alive. I watched my dad defy a prognosis.

And I thought: other people need to know this is possible.

That’s how The Lifestyle PAâ„¢ was born.

My mission is to educate, inspire, and show people like you how to harness the power of your lifestyle so you can flourish — physically, mentally, and spiritually. Not through complicated protocols or guilt-driven messaging, but through practical, evidence-based, Bible-aligned habits that fit into real life.

Because you don’t need to overhaul everything overnight. You just need a starting point and someone to show you the way.
